My story is unique and rooted in my 30 years of experience working for Cook County (Chicago) Adult Probation and separately as a private practice therapist.  These experiences allowed me to blend both roles which culminated in my role as an officer in the Mental Health Unit of Cook County Probation.  I went on to co-lead that unit for 14 years to apply my client work on program development.  The work we did in Chicago was not rivaled by many jurisdictions in the United States.  I worked in 6 high volume court districts across Cook County and those judges adjudicated thousands of cases every year which included felony and misdemeanor cases.  They type of cases rangedd from assaultive in nature, to property as well as substance use.

• Working as a private practice therapist 

• Co-occurring Mentally Ill Substance Abuse Treatment

• Maintaining mandated client engagement with Dual Diagnosis Treatment

• Participating with state hospital planning and coordination of services

• Various forms of community treatment such as Assertive Community Treatment, Harm Reduction

• Clients mandated to work with community partners and how that collaboration 

• Working with the Judiciary

• Petitioning for involuntary short term commitment

• Assessment of risk procedures

• Mental Health Courts

• Civil Commitment Proceedings

• Police Crisis Intervention

• Sequential Intercept Model-framework to help communities to reduce the criminalization of persons with mental illness and substance use
